Fixing errors on your website or online store
Website down, shop showing an error, cart not taking orders? I look for the cause and fix it; if that is not possible, I tell you straight away. I work with WordPress (WooCommerce) and OpenCart, including very old versions. If your site runs on PrestaShop, Magento, Joomla, Drupal or is custom-built, and I can get access to the admin panel, files and database, I will most likely be able to help.
I am Kernius Zigmantas of SiteSolvo. First I look at the site and tell you in writing what I would do and what it would cost.
The site is down or shows an error
You open the address and see a blank page or “500”. I look for the cause in the error log (the file where the system records errors), and before fixing anything I make a backup copy.
Errors after an update or a PHP change
When a shop shows an error after an update, or after your hosting company changes the PHP version (PHP is the programming language that WordPress and OpenCart run on), I find the module or code that no longer suits the new version and repair it. Whether one patch is enough or the system should be upgraded, I tell you after the check; for the upgrade itself, see OpenCart upgrade.
The browser says “Not secure”
If the browser shows “Not secure” by the address, an SSL certificate (the encryption behind https://) is usually missing, or the page still has old http:// links. I install the certificate and redirect old addresses to the new ones.
A link leads to an error page
A menu link leads to a page that says “404”: the address no longer exists. I find broken links and repair them, or redirect old addresses to new ones.
Cart, payment or shipping price not working
A customer adds a product to the cart but cannot order. Or orders arrive and you get no emails. Or the payment window does not open. First I look for the cause and tell you in writing what I suggest doing.
The site looks wrong on a phone
On a phone the text and buttons are too small, or the menu does not open? I adapt the site for phones, so it reads easily and works with one hand.
How I work safely
- I check and write to you. I look at the site and send you in writing what I would do and what it would cost. Free.
- I make a backup copy. I copy the whole website and database, so I can restore everything.
- I fix it in a test copy. Where possible, I try changes in a test copy first, not in your shop.
- I move the changes. When everything is checked, I move them into your live shop.
I need access to the admin panel, the website files (FTP or SFTP) and the database, for example in your hosting panel (DirectAdmin, cPanel or Plesk). I do not work on Shopify, Wix or Squarespace shops, as they give no access to the files.
Work you can look at
siuvimomanija.lt – an OpenCart shop online since 2010. I updated it: shipping cost is calculated automatically, customers can pay by card, and I also worked on its SEO (visibility in Google search).
e.segris.lt – an old OpenCart 1.5 shop. New design for phones and computers, SSL set up, Lithuanian product descriptions with photos and video, SEO work. See the before-and-after on the home page.
For two years I have looked after six websites of the same client: siuvimomanija.lt, husqvarna-viking.lt, babylock.lt, elna.lt, siuvimomasina.lt and juki.lv.
Price
The price is agreed before I start, and you pay in instalments. We can issue a VAT invoice.
For monthly checks of errors and the SSL certificate there is a maintenance plan. Details are on Website maintenance and Online store maintenance.
Questions
Why is my website down?
Typical causes: a changed PHP version, a broken plugin or module, a full hosting account, or an expired domain or certificate. First check for messages in your hosting panel and whether other pages open; if you cannot find the cause, write to me.
What does the free check include?
I look at the site and tell you in writing what I noticed, what I would do and what it would cost. This is free. You can request it with the “Request a free check” form.
What access do you need to start fixing?
I need access to the admin panel, the website files (FTP or SFTP) and the database, for example in your hosting panel (DirectAdmin, cPanel or Plesk).
What should I do when WordPress shows a critical error?
Usually a plugin or a theme causes this message. If you cannot log in to the admin panel, write to me: I will look for the cause and tell you what I suggest doing.
How much does fixing a website cost?
The price depends on the problem, so I first look at the site and tell you in writing what I would do and what it would cost. This is free. The price is agreed before I start, and you pay in instalments. We can issue a VAT invoice.
